Unicoi Systems Advances Software Line with Release of Fusion® CIFS v2.1
ATLANTA, GEORGIA –
January 30, 2007 – Unicoi Systems, a leading provider of VoIP and multimedia software and reference designs, today announced the availability of its Fusion Common Internet File System (CIFS) version 2.1 software designed especially for embedded devices. CIFS provides an efficient way for multiple embedded devices to remotely browse each other's shared folders and to read, write, edit, copy, delete and update each other's files. Using the high-level APIs provided, the Fusion CIFS client can be used to access other file shares. CIFS makes such operations possible without the need to transfer entire files to/from the device's local disk or memory.
Fusion CIFS v2.1 builds on the success of the original Fusion CIFS release, and includes these critical features:
- Support for RFC 1001 (Protocol standard for a NetBIOS service on a TCP/UDP transport)
- Support for RFC 1002 (Protocol standard for a NetBIOS service on a TCP/UDP transport: Detailed specifications)
- Based on the widely used Server Message Block (SMB) network protocol
- Uses NetBios to connect to other CIFS or Samba client/servers
- Extremely small footprint software
- Processor, networking stack and operating system independent
- Written in 100% ANSI C-code
Fusion CIFS uses the Fusion Common Library, an abstraction layer that provides processor, C runtime library, operating system and network stack independence. Fusion CIFS is easily ported to other platforms and pre-existing ports are available for Fusion RTOS, Fusion Network Stack, Win32 and POSIX (e.g., Linux) environments.
CIFS is an integral part of workstation and server operating systems as well as embedded and appliance systems. An increasing number of products offer CIFS support, including a growing number of NAS (Network Attached Storage) and SAN-like (Storage Area Network) network storage server products.
“CIFS has become a key file sharing protocol due to its widespread distribution and usability enhancements,” said Greg Coonley, CEO of Unicoi Systems. “Our support of CIFS functionality is a clear demonstration of Unicoi Systems’ commitment to continue to expand the Fusion line of software, and to provide product developers with the most complete set of embedded systems software available today.”
Fusion CIFS is part of Unicoi Systems’ Fusion line of software which includes networking, security and web software, a license-free Real-Time Operating System, and a complete suite of voice processing software, including codecs, algorithms and echo cancellers.
